Bra Fitting Hints

Are you in the right fitting bra?

4 Simple checks - what you should be looking for when purchasing a bra

1. Underband – Should be firm but not too tight

If the band is riding up at the back – its too big and this will put pressure on your shoulders and back – 80% of the support should come from the band – think of a rucksuck with the bands around the waist aimed to distribute the weight from just your shoulders – same principle
Too tight and uncomfortable – Firm is good, but if your bra is too tight and very uncomfortable then you may need to go up a band size

2. Cups – the cups should fully encapsulate the breast

Your breasts should sit completely in the cup. If you spill out of the top or side (double boob) – the cup is too small

3. The Wire – Should be touching your body – NOT your breast

The Middle section should sit neatly against your body
The underneath should be touching your body and you shouldn’t see any breast underneath – a good test is putting your arms up – if you see breast that could mean you need to go up a cup size and/or down a band size
The wire should sit behind your breast not on your breast tissue – a great self check is pressing the wire – you should feel your body not your breast.

4. Straps – The straps should be tight enough that they sit on your shoulder – but not too tight

You should have your straps tight enough that they sit on your shoulder – but not too tight - you should be able to comfortably run 2 fingers along underneath
If they are too loose and fall off it, could mean the band is too big or you are in the wrong style bra for your shape
If they are too tight and dig in – you could have them set too tight or in the wrong size (band too big/cup too small – so puts pressure on your shoulders – remember Check #1 - 80% of the support should be coming from the band)

I might wear the wrong size, but can you tell under my clothes?….

Answer: It will depend on what you are wearing, however depending on the fabric and fit sometimes it can be more obvious than you think
